HOW TO FORMAT USB DRIVE WITH COMMAND PROMT

  FAT32 is common file system format used on computer of all types, it is widely supported, it is not often implemented as the default format on most PC.

    NTFS system is default for windows,    

    Ext#4 system is generally default for Linux and,   

    HFS Plus system is default for Apple machine.



  When sharing external drives with the computers, it can be advantageous to format the drive using the FAT32 file system.



steps to FORMAT USB drive with FAT32:


   Insert an USB drive



 



   open 'My computer' and note that what is your external drive is named as [ex: removable disk (G:)]



 



Open command prompt. reformatting is must be done through the windows command prompt. to open command prompt, click the "Start" button, and then click on "Run".  In the dialog box that appears, type "cmd". This will open the command prompt.





Then enter command line for formatting the drive, type "format /FS:FAT32 G:" you can replace the letter G with the letter of external hard drive.


 



Confirm the command line. Windows will warn you that reformatting the drive will erase all its data. Press "Enter" or "Y" to proceed. And wait for the completion of formatting operation. The time required will vary based on the size of the drive.
