My computer is running slow

If your computer is running slow, what steps can you do to fix it...........?

For Microsoft Windows user, below there are some steps that can help to speed up the computer or determine why the computer is slow, try these basic steps.

Reboot
  this is most commonly  used step for restarting (refreshing) the computer, if you computer had not been rebooted recently, reboot it before following any of the steps below.

Background programs
   Background programs are the most common reason for a slow computer. Remove or disable any startup programs that automatically start each time when your computer boots.

    Open Task Manager to see what programs are running in the background and how much CPU and MEMORY they are using. if you are running Windows 7 or higher, run RESMON for for better understanding.

 If you having antivirus scanner in your computer, make  sure that it is not scanning your computer in background, it can decrease the overall performance of your computer if scanning is in progress.

Delete Temp Files
  Temporary files are stored in Hard Drive whenever the computer runs programs. Deleting temp files can improve the performance of your computer.
  Press Windows + R and Run %temp%, and then delete all temporary files, you can skip those files which are not deleted.

Scan for Viruses
   If your computer is infected by Virus, this can cause your computer run slow, install antivirus program for active protection against viruses.

Update
   Make sure that you have installed all the latest windows updates.
   If your computer is slow when you open a browser, check if all plugins are Up to date or not. if not, Update all the browser plugins, you can disable the plugins and then also can check the performance.

Bad, corrupted files in Hard drive
    Run Scandisk, chkdsk, or something equivalent to verify that there is no physically wrong with your hard drive.
   Try defragment of hard drive to arrange the data in best possible order.

computer overheating
   make sure that your computer processor is not over heating, overheating of processor causes decrease in overall performance and also may cause computer auto restart.

these are some basic steps you can use to improve the performance of your computer.
